The DJ Bullock Endowment Fund

The DJ Bullock Endowment Fund was established in January 2012 to perpetuate the legacy of the late Derek John Bullock (1926 – 2009) in secondary school education in Nigeria. 'DJ’ Bullock dedicated his entire life to imparting the very best secondary school education to his wards both as teacher and principal in several government and private secondary schools in Nigeria between 1951 and 1973.

In addition he made it possible for a significant number of indigent students to attend schools in which he served by paying their tuition from his own pocket. He also encouraged the early development of theatre arts in Nigerian secondary schools by putting on stage plays in his schools from time to time with his wards filling all roles.

The legend behind the name

Derek John Bullock (Deejay as he was fondly referred to) was born in Doncaster, England, on 26th July 1926. In September 1931, he entered the Woodsfield Junior Mixed for his elementary schooling, from where he entered the Doncaster Grammar School two months after his 10th birthday in 1936! He left school in 1943, a few days to his 17th birthday and so had a full year before call up for National Service which is at 18!
