The Scholarship Award Scheme took effect in April 2016. Mrs. Monica Mosomi was appointed as the Administrative Officer responsible for the scheme. She was briefed about the foundation and introduced to the Principals of Government College Ibadan (GCI) Senior and Junior Schools.
A letter was written to the school requesting for a selection of five students, notable for their brilliance and diligence but indigent, from each of the classes: JSS. l – lll & SSS. l - lll. In all thirty names were submitted. The Admin Officer visited the school and requested for the students and they were briefed about DJB. They were given writing sheet, immediately, to write an essay about themselves and why they deserve the scholarship.
This was an impromptu essay; to trigger the selection process for the Scholarship Award. DJB Scholarship forms were completed by the students with guidance from their parents. The form was to be returned with a passport photograph, the academic reports of 1st - 3rd terms. Candidates that scored 70% and above were further screened by Banwo Smith, Kolade Mosuro, Sam Iseniyi, two teachers representing GCI, and the Administrative Officer at the Booksellers Conference Room. It was a one on one interview after which 12 students were selected, two from each class, based on merit and needs.
The parents of the selected students were invited and briefed about DJB. They were full of appreciation for the Board of Trustees and the donors.
The award took place on the 29th of March 2017 at GCI Assembly Hall. Important personalities were in attendance, notable among are: - Lekan Are, (GCIOBA Patron) Oyo State commissioner for Education: Professor Adeniyi Olowofela and a host of Directors from the Ministry of Education. Members of GCI School Governing Board. The BOT Chairman Olutunde Oni and some members of the BOT as well as the parents and guardian of the awardees. The awardees were encouraged not to relent in studying hard and to be of good behavior. They were given text books and well kitted school uniform. Also the two outgoing students in SSS3 were given Scholarship Certificate Award. The event was however, not concluded without the taking of Photographs.
The sum of N607,765:00 (Six Hundred and Seven Thousand, Seven Hundred and Sixty Five Naira Only) has been expended on this year scholarship Award, whilst the associated expenses incurred for the event ceremony was =N=58,000:00 (Fifty Eight Thousand Naira Only).
